As a Maintenance Operative/Handyperson, you’ll play a key role in keeping our Data Centre Estate running smoothly - from Gosport to Glasgow. You’ll carry out a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks, ensure compliance across all sites, and support the wider operations team to maintain safe, efficient, and high‑performing facilities. This is a 6 month FTC, with the potential to be made permanent.
Your Responsibilities:
- Carry out a wide range of planned and reactive maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, joinery, decoration, minor electrical work (including PAT testing), grounds maintenance and general repairs.
- Complete essential fire safety, legionella, and compliance checks to ensure all sites meet legal and operational standards.
- Manage van stock, materials, and equipment to ensure everything is well‑maintained, cost‑effective, and available when needed.
- Organise and manage your own workload, ensuring tasks are completed within agreed SLAs.
- Maintain accurate tickets, service logs, and maintenance records.
- Travel extensively between sites (occasional overnight stays may be required).
- Support local site management by supervising maintenance activities carried out by specialist vendors and suppliers.
- Assist the Data Centre IT Operations Teams with equipment processing and recycling when required.
- Carry out any additional general maintenance tasks within your skillset.

Your success in the role will be measured by:
- Planned maintenance completion rate – Scheduled tasks completed on time and to the required standard.
- Reactive repair response time – Speed of response and resolution against SLA targets.
- Quality of workmanship – Minimal repeat visits or corrective work required.
- Range‑of‑skill utilisation – Demonstrated competence across plumbing, joinery, decoration, electrical tasks, grounds maintenance and repairs.
- Accuracy of fire safety & legionella checks – All compliance tasks completed on schedule, with no missed or overdue items.
- Compliance documentation quality – Records completed accurately and stored correctly.
- Adherence to Health & Safety procedures – Consistent PPE usage, safe working practices, and hazard/near‑miss reporting.
- Van stock accuracy – Well‑maintained stock levels with minimal shortages or waste.
- Cost‑effective material usage – Efficient use of materials and minimisation of unnecessary spend.
- Equipment care – Tools and equipment kept in good working order and defects reported promptly.
- Work planning & prioritisation – Ability to manage workload independently and respond to changing priorities.
- Travel efficiency – Effective planning of routes and site visits to minimise downtime.
